Glaucoma, often called the “sneak thief of sight,” affects millions of people in the United States. In recognition of National Glaucoma Awareness Month, eye health education and advocacy organization Prevent Blindness is amplifying its efforts to provide patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with free educational tools to combat this sight-threatening disease. With early detection, access to eye care, and proper treatment, glaucoma’s impact on vision can be minimized. Here are some key highlights of their resources and links to valuable tools and information.*

Educational Materials and Social Media Campaigns

Prevent Blindness has compiled an extensive library of resources to educate the public about glaucoma and its management, including:

  • Downloadable eye health and safety fact sheets. Available in English and Spanish, offering guidance on glaucoma basics and treatment options.
  • Social media graphics. Designed to spread awareness, these visuals can be shared widely.

Study on Glaucoma Prevalence

A collaborative study, Prevalence of Glaucoma Among US Adults in 2022, sheds light on the demographic and geographic distribution of glaucoma in the U.S. The study was conducted by leading institutions, including NORC and the University of Michigan.
